Stumpfest is the sixth episode of season two of Bluey.

Synopsis

Dad and his mates are pumped-they’re going to rip up some tree stumps in the backyard! Unfortunately for them, Bluey and Bingo have set up a nail salon on one of the stumps and are refusing to close shop.[1]

Some hasty negotiations see the Dads get their fingers and toes painted in exchange for the stump, but Bluey still takes issue with finishing her game.

It’s only after mum points out how much fun Dad and his friends are having that Bluey sees that she was actually the one interrupting their game. Bluey allows them to rip up the stump and starts a new game, selling them ice cold lemonade.

Dad and his mates hit the backyard, ready to rip up some tree stumps! But when Bluey and Bingo take over a stump as a nail salon, Dad finds he’s got some negotiating to do.[1]

Episode Recap

Warning Spoilers! ->

It's time for Stumpfest! Bandit, Stripe and Pat ...and Muffin make their presences in the backyard known as Bluey is confused - what exactly is Stumpfest? Bandit fills her in: it's an event where he and the other men rip up all the stumps in the backyard while the kids play and the ladies watch from the balcony. It indeed sounds like a lot of fun!

The men start to tear into their first stump as the kids start to play; they set up a nail salon on one of the stumps, decorating it to fit the part. However, Bluey, telling Bandit she and the girls will use one of the stumps, tunes out the important bits: the game is over when the men are finished with the other stump, and the stump she'll use will be ripped up. The salon's first customers are Chilli and Trixie; looking about for more, the girls attempt to ask up Bandit and the boys if they want to chip in as they make short work of the first stump.

As Bluey does Muffin's nails, the boys pop in... now the salon is at risk of closure. Bluey passes it off, given she tuned out the fact the stump is being ripped out earlier. However, Bandit really needs that stump gone, but the girls are adamant it stays. Oh, and Chilli and Trixie chime in ("They're just trying to run a small business!" / "Go and destroy the planet somewhere else!") and take the girls' side.

This clearly isn't working, so an agreement needs to be struck. Bandit and the boys (much to their chagrin) will receive a full-on makeover (there must be face make-up), and Bluey will receive... unfortunately, the stump still needs to go. So Bluey, Bingo and Muffin set to give the boys a makeover (Stripe doesn't have one) Now the boys are ready to rip up the stu- hey, wait, what? They're gonna rip up the stump anyway? Bluey changes her mind, but a deal's a deal, after all. (Meanwhile, Pat the unicorn sneaks away.)

Bluey sadly concedes and Chilli takes her away from the action. Bluey, watching the stump-ripping action in the distance and thinking the boys disrupted her game ("I'm suring my little head off!"), gives the action a watch and realises she has been disrupting the ceremony. Now gaining an appreciation for the hard work, Bluey is told that playing can be different for grown-ups- hey, it's Bingo and Muffin, ready to take back the salon! However, Bluey has another idea...

The boys finish their work on the stump-salon as they're given a glass of good lemonade, toasting the Stumpfest ceremony- WAIT-

Trivia

  • Bluey is replaced by Bandit in the credits of this episode.
  • Muffin appeared without Socks, first being Bike and second being The Sleepover.
  • The fish pond Chilli refers to in this episode is installed in Tradies.
  • Interestingly Uncle Stripe rolls up his "sleeves" despite not wearing any clothes.
    • Even more interestingly is that this behavior goes unnoticed by everyone. It's unknown why a society of dogs who don't wear shirts would develop this action in the first place.
  • The girls choosing to link arms to save the stump is a similar action taken by environmentalists to protest the removal of whole trees. It is used in a comedic way here to protest the removal of what is otherwise only the remnants of a tree.
  • Long Dog: This long dog is dark colored. It can be seen in it's usual place on top of the bookshelf, during the scene after Chilli stops Bluey's stump game.
  • The music used in this episode is Brandenburg Concerto Number 5 in D Major by Johann Sebastian Bach.
  • When this episode aired on Disney Channel in the US, it was paired with Army and Fancy Restaurant.
