Bluey.tv Description

Rusty's Dad is in the Australian army, which means  he's often working away from home, but he loves staying in touch with Rusty, Dusty and Digger from his army base by writing letters full of stories and caring words.

When Rusty's Dad returns home (and not without a treasured can of condensed milk for Rusty) he loves hanging out with his family – including days out on the beach playing his favourite sport… cricket![1]

Appearance

Rusty's Dad is a Red Kelpie with red and tan fur. He has tan feet, hands, chest marking and bottom muzzle, and red ears, tail, head and top muzzle. He also has a dark red nose and wears a green army cap and camouflage army overalls. His chest marking is a triangle.

Personality

Rusty's Dad is a loving husband and father as well as being a dedicated soldier. Though he misses his family while on tours of duty, he maintains a sense of humor about his situation. Rusty's Dad also displays care and concern for each of his children as individuals, making a point of specially addressing his concerns about batting against Tiny. When at home, Rusty's Dad enjoys playing cricket with his wife and children, though he's not above interrupting the game for some less structured fun.

Biography

Rusty's Dad serves in the army. He has a wife is the father of Digger, Rusty, and Dusty, but has no known friends as of yet.

Rusty's Dad was just coming back from being "on patrol" when Rusty met Jack Russell and played a game of "Army" with him. Rusty shared this fact with Jack, along with the fact that his father had promised to bring him some condensed milk. Rusty's Dad then appeared at Glasshouse Primary School to pick up Rusty, who ran to embrace his father upon hearing him call out. Rusty's Dad kept his promise and gave Rusty some condensed milk, which he then passed along to his new friend Jack.[2]

For at least part of a year during which Rusty became particularly dedicated to honing his cricket skills, his father was deployed. He received at least one letter from his family during this time, and wrote at least one response. The postscript of his reply letter was addressed to Rusty in particular, giving him advice that applied to both life and cricket as well as charging him with keeping an eye on his little sister. At least part of the love both Rusty and his dad had for cricket came from playing it as a family.[3]

Trivia

  • He is a soldier in the Australian Army.
    • His green beret would suggest he is a member of the 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR), which is based at Enoggera, very close to the suburbs Bluey is set in. The mascot of 6RAR is a Blue Heeler. 6RAR wears a "Rifle Green" beret, where the Commando Beret is "Sherwood green". If Rusty's Dad was a member of 1 or 2 Commando, the family would probably live in Melbourne or Sydney.
    • His voice actor served in the Australian military.
  • He is voiced by musician, actor, songwriter and producer Anthony Field, also known as the Blue Wiggle, who also voices Postie.
    • Before becoming a musician, from 1982 to 1985, Anthony Field had served in the 5th/7th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment, first as infantryman and rifleman, before becoming a stretcher-bearer and ambulance driver. During his service in the army, Field was first posted to West Germany where he was on sentry duty at the Berlin Wall before being redeployed to Australia. While still in the army, Field begun playing the bagpipes during both training missions and in military parades. In July 1985, Field suffered a back injury during training, resulting in the end of his military service.
  • Prior to Cricket, he was only seen from the back.
