Rug Island is the tenth episode of the second season of Bluey.
Synopsis
On Bingo and Bluey's Rug Island, a pack of felt pens can be anything: bananas, campfires, even a snake. But Dad will need to embrace his inner kid if he wants to make it his home.
Before going to work, Dad washes ashore on Rug Island-a magical land where everything’s made from coloured felt pens.
Bluey and Bingo show him the island ways of fishing, foraging and fire building. Just as Dad is settling in, their isolation is disturbed by a football from next door.
Faced with returning the ball or continuing the game, Dad embraces his inner kid and defends their ‘white chocolate egg’ from the interloper, earning his place as officially ‘not a grown up’. As Dad finally leaves Rug Island for work, Bingo gives him a pen of his own-a gift that means everything.

Bingo says they're keeping it. Bandit says they have to give him his ball back, Bingo says it's not a ball, instead is an egg. Just in the game, Bandit adds. He takes it from Bingo, who gets upset. Bingo calls Pat a naughty grownup for being on Rug Island and trying to take their egg. Pat says he was trying to get his ball back, though it's not a ball. It's an egg! It cuts, they are now crowning Bandit for his bravery, and rescuing the chocolate egg, he's now not a grownup. They congratulate him, Bingo cheers. 'Now, let us lick the egg!' The three start licking the egg. Bingo and Bandit are out catching fish, Bluey is building, as Bandit paddles the boat over. They set the fish down, before Chilli calls out. 'Ahoy there!' Bingo and Bandit look behind them, Chilli is waving, whilst holding Bandit's bag. It's his ship. They've come to take him home. Bluey says Rug Island is his home. Bingo says he can't have two homes. She's right, so Bandit doesn't know what he's gonna do. Bingo says that he should go, Bandit is surprised. He asks if she's sure. She is, and that it's okay. She's just glad he came to Rug Island. They hug. Bandit says he's gonna miss her. Maybe she can come with him, he suggests. 'No, this is my home.' Bingo replies. Bandit sets the boat down, about to set off. Bingo tells him to wait, and gives him a present. He thanks her. They wave, he looks back at them. He reaches the steps, where Chilli helps him up. The two stare as Bandit unwraps the present. Chilli asks what Bingo have him, a brown felt pen is seen. Bandit replies a singular word: "Everything".Appearances

Trivia
- This episode, along with Daddy Dropoff, Bingo and Dad Baby (and also Dance Mode which aired on television this day) were released on the 17th of March 2020, onto ABC IView (the streaming service for all ABCs channels, including ABC Kids).
- While this had been done for select episodes airing in Season 1B[1], the timing occurred during the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic, a time in which most people were prohibited from leaving houses, therefore leading to greater television and media intake. It is possible therefore that these episodes (along with those which aired during the state lockdowns of Australia, lead to wider demographic and audience watching the show than would be usual.
- The episode takes place over a small space during the morning. When the episode begins, the sun is in the stage of twilight, roughly nautical twilight, while the events end just after sunrise.
- The laptop Bandit puts into his bag is in the style of a Mac, though instead of an Apple logo, a paw is seen instead.
- When Bingo goes to get some pipis, she says they are “Pipis doing wee-wees!”, which is a clear reference to The Beach, where Bluey says the same quote.
- Another reference to a past episode occurs when Bingo offers Bluey and Bandit her pen salad. They both respond the same enthusiasm and praise as they did with her salad in BBQ.
- A snippet of Sir Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance No. 1 march is heard when Bluey declares Bandit to be "not a grownup." The march is often heard at graduation and commencement ceremonies throughout the Commonwealth of Nations and the United States.
- The episode's plot is partly inspired by the 1998 American epic World War II film The Thin Red Line, in which one of the film's main protagonists, Private Robert E. Lee Witt, goes AWOL from his unit to live with the peaceful and carefree native Melanesian inhabitants of a South Pacific island before later being found and imprisoned by the United States military.[2]
- Long Dog: Likely the original dog but shadowed. It can be seen on top of the playroom bookshelf after Bandit has been rescued.
- When this episode aired on Disney Channel in the US, it was paired with Hairdressers and Sticky Gecko.
Errors
- As Bandit opens the present, the Poinciana is not visible when it should be.
