"Is it the aliens!?" ― Maynard
Maynard is a secondary character that has appeared in multiple episodes of Bluey.
Biography
Maynard is often seen near his dock house, fishing in the lake. His cabin is just across the bush from Mort's house. He runs (and perhaps owns) a country gas station with attached bait and tackle shop.
Maynard appears to be good friends with Mort and his family, including Mort's daughter Chilli Heeler and her daughters Bluey and Bingo. Mort and the girls later came to Maynard's cabin while Chilli and her daughter were visiting Mort. When Bluey noted that Mort refused to heed Chilli's advice, Maynard briefly took his friend to task but then agreed to let them hide in the cabin. He then attempted to bluff Chilli when she arrived looking for them.
As he and Chilli conversed, Maynard noted Mort's stubbornness and independence, only for Chilli to make a heartfelt statement about still feeling like she needed Mort in her life. Maynard, aware that Mort was within hearing distance, made a pointed remark about Mort in response. He was then distracted by a bite on his fishing rod, and rushed after it as it began to be dragged away. Mort, emerging from hiding, berated his friend but soon turned his attention to once again fleeing from Chilli.[1]
On another occasion, Maynard was outside his gas station when Jack's Dad and Lulu arrived to ask if they could borrow his phone charger. Maynard responded that he didn't even own a phone, due to being annoyed by constant phone calls. Upon learning that they were trying to find Glasshouse Primary School, Maynard offered to draw them a map, asking only for one of Lulu's strawberries in return. Maynard drew the map and provided directions, and with some hesitation-as he judged it wouldn't be to the liking of Jack's Dad-advised them about an offroad shortcut.[2]
Maynard was later among the guests at the wedding of Radley Heeler and Frisky, along with Mort and Mort's older daughter Brandy.[3]
Appearance
Maynard is an Irish Wolfhound[4] with patches of brownish grey, dark brown, light brown and cream fur. He also has bushy eyebrows, a black nose, and grey-white beard whiskers.
Personality
Maynard appears to be a carefree dog who spends his days living his own life. He also is very helpful and would often lend out trust to those around him. Maynard is somewhat eccentric and does not own a phone because he does not like receiving calls repetitively. He believes in aliens, is a skilled whittler, and likes fishing for Barramundis.
