"But I love my dog teeth!" |
Markets is the twentieth episode of the first season of Bluey.
Synopsis[]
When Bluey visits the markets with five dollars from the tooth fairy, the options for her are endless. But as she and Indy scour the market stalls for the perfect purchase, spending it proves hard.
Episode Recap[]
Bluey excitedly wakes up to see five dollarbucks from the Tooth Fairy, celebrating with a little floss. Chilli suggests she can spend the money at the markets - there, she is joined by Bingo and Bandit, and soon Bluey's school friend Indy. They first encounter a stall selling bubble wands which have the ability to create the biggest bubbles one has ever seen!
But soon, they find themselves at a stand owned by a rancher who has two ponies. Bluey and Indy are in awe, but Bluey is soon conflicted when the rancher tells her she can only have one at a time (five dollars is only enough for one rider). While Indy is okay with it, Bluey decides to have a refund, as she wants Indy to ride Buttermilk. However, Buttermilk shoots a lot of poo off her back, causing the girls to run away screaming.
Meanwhile, Bandit and Bingo has found themselves in front of a German sausage stall, but Indy can't have the sauce, nor barbeque, nor mustard. But could they instead have poffertjes? Nope, as Indy can't eat wheat, sugar, gluten or dairy. Bluey instead picks up a toffee apple, which has sugar, so Indy can't eat it. And Bluey isn't connecting well with her snack, so it's a lose-lose situation. Bluey buys the toffee apple, while looking guiltily at Indy.
A busker is playing songs for all, and Bluey wants to get a song, but she's all out of dollarbucks. Bandit tells her that when one spends money, it's gone; Indy tells her that "what goes around, comes around" - Indy's Mum. Bluey, tearing up, isn't sure what it means as we're treated to what the phrase means.
The dollarbuck, having been spent on Cornelius' stand, gives the dollarbuck to Winton, who gives it to Gruber's Dad's stand. He gives the dollarbuck to his son, who gives it to Juniper's Mum. Her daughter buys a bag of carrots with the dollarbuck, and Daisy gets it as change. Daisy then buys a cake off Indy's mum's cake stand (she's been dancing to a new song from the busker), proving the phrase "what goes around, comes around" is indeed right. Bluey pops the dollarbuck into the busker's guitar case, prompting a new song and everyone to start flossing in celebration!
As the Heelers return from the markets, Bluey, taking a bite off her apple, loses another tooth.

Trivia[]
- Bluey is replaced by Indy's Mum dancing in the credits of this episode.
- In the Disney distributed versions of the episode, they removed Buttermilk pooping then Bluey and Indy running away.
- The original unedited version is present on the Bluey: Seasons 1 & 2 DVD set as a bonus.
- A recent Disney Junior airing restores this scene.
- In the opening shot with Bluey and her parents in the kitchen, a toy carrot can be seen on the floor, which could possibly draw inspiration from Kevin the Carrot.
- This is the only episode (so far) where Cornelius speaks.
- The portrait of the Queen on the five-dollar note depicts her as a Welsh Corgi. In real life, the Queen's fondness for Corgis is well known, having owned more than 30 dogs of the breed or the Corgi/Dachsund hybrid "Dorgis" in her life.
- The portrait on the ten-dollar note depicts Australian bush poet Andrew "Banjo" Paterson in canine form, most likely as a dingo. Paterson's work often depicts and celebrates life in the Outback, the most famous being the folk song "Waltzing Matilda."
- Long Dog: This version of the long dog is purple with a lighter purple spot on it's back. It can be found camouflaged on the purple bean bag visible when Bluey first spots the ponies.
- When this episode aired on Disney Channel in the US, it was paired with The Doctor and The Claw.
- In this episode's official website page, the character section has Bluey eating a candy apple and Bingo eating a hot dog.[2]
- The paintings in the painting booth contain several obscure pop-culture references.
- The green landscape is a frame from an infamous commercial where a zombie jumps out and startles the audience.[3]
- The painting with the yellow arch is a scene from the obscure game Hotel Mario, depicting the gates of the Mushroom Kingdom.[4]
Errors[]
- Bluey is missing a tooth throughout the episode. However, Bluey's character model only shows a missing tooth after she loses a second tooth in the final scene.
