"Ah, Bluey! I think you’ll be a scientist when you grow up!" ― Doreen[source]

Doreen is a secondary character that has appeared in Bluey.

Bluey.tv Description

Doreen is a friendly neighbour who always makes sure to say hello to Bluey, Bingo and Bandit whenever their paths cross.

She’s great with local advice, like warning people about swooping magpies nearby, but she’s not so good at remembering which night is bin night.

Doreen loves a good curry and a game of mahjong. She is working on her assertiveness, following Muffin’s example, in order to stand up for herself when she needs to.[1]

Biography

Doreen is Bluey and Bingo's neighbour two doors down.[2] She is related to a dog named Len - likely her late husband.[3] She is friends with the members of the Heeler family.

Doreen and the Heelers-specifically the girls and their dad-would engage in a weekly ritual in which they took their wheelie bins out to the curb the night before they were to be picked up by the Bin Man. Doreen would often comment on how full the Heelers' garbage bin appeared to be, and the likelihood that they would be visited by "Mr. Crow." On one occasion, Doreen herself had an overfull bin due to inviting over some ladies whom she regularly played Mahjong with. Yet another night, Bandit asked Doreen whether both bins were supposed to go out, only for Doreen to reply that she always did what Bandit did. After Bluey worked out the matter based on her observations of the phases of the moon, Doreen proudly suggested that the younger dog might grow up to be a scientist.[4]

Doreen later had a nasty encounter with a magpie defending its nest, leaving her with a damaged hat. As she waited at a bus stop, she met Bandit and Bingo, who were on an errand of their own. Doreen attempted to question Bandit about his upcoming plane flight but was diverted from this topic due to Bingo not being aware of the trip. Upon learning that the pair were about to go through the park where the magpie was, she warned them of the danger and pointed to her own hat as evidence. She advised them not to break eye contact with the bird, and then boarded her bus.[5]

Hoping to raise money for a trip to the reef, Doreen held a garage sale and put out various items, including Len's old scooter. Unfortunately, Doreen proved an unaggressive salesperson, preferring to accept the low prices suggested by her customers to trying to haggle. Chilli encouraged her to be more forward for her own sake, counsel that was all too timely as an Old Pug arrived and attempted to buy the scooter for far less than it was worth. The other woman's cantankerous manner cowed Doreen, but unexpected help came in the form of Bluey and Bingo's cousin Muffin, who was acting the part of a "grouchy granny."

As Muffin and the pug clashed, Doreen actually stopped Chilli from intervening out of curiosity as to how the encounter would end. To Doreen's amazement, Muffin was able to argue the pug up to a price of $1200. In gratitude to her benefactor, Doreen gave Muffin the choice of any item she was trying to sell and was surprised when Muffin chose a simple tea towel. Upon seeing Bandit doing sit ups, she offered to sell him a piece of exercise equipment. She asked him what he thought it was worth, and when he suggested $20, Doreen-to both Bandit and Chilli's delight-made a counteroffer of $50.[6]

Appearance

She is a Great Pyrenees with white fur and a black nose. She wears purple rimmed glasses. She usually wears a yellow hat with a pink hat band. She has bangs, which are visible underneath her hat. At night she often puts her hair in curlers.

Personality

Doreen is a very nice and sweet-natured lady dog, with a grandmotherly fondness for kids, like Bluey, Bingo, and Muffin. She originally was a bit of a pushover until she learned (from Muffin's example) how to stand up for herself.
