Christmas Cricket is a Bluey short. It was released on 21st of December, 2025.
Episode Recap
Lucky and Bluey are playing cricket in Lucky's back garden, with Bingo with the two also, but instead occupying herself with handstands. Bluey is fed up from the game and takes the opportunity to leave when hearing the music; both Bingo and eventually Lucky follow.
Inside, Pat is seen helping Chucky learn how to play Jingle Bells on the piano, with Chucky seeming to have just learnt the tune. Pat invites the three in to sing the song. Pat, however, seems to enjoy himself too much and takes over the piano, with the four kids to dancing to his speed, and applauding him.
Appearances
- The Labrador Family:
- Bingo Heeler
- Bluey Heeler
Trivia
- On Disney+, this short is branded as a minisode.
- This is the second time that a Bluey episode has shared a noun with another episode in the name; it is also the second time where it is shared with two different episodes, those being Christmas Swim and Cricket.
- A grass strip in the Labradors garden can be seen worn down, as if it has been run on continuously.
- Bingo is trying to do a handstand, though achieving it in the end. The animation is reused from Handstand and Cricket.
- There are multiple references to Cricket:
- Blueys less-than-enthusiastic feelings for the sport of cricket are continued on from the episode.
- Lucky can be seen doing fifty runs between the stumps in the game of cricket, which shows that him and Rusty are roughly parallel in skill for sport, given Rusty was nearly at fifty runs in a montage from the episode.
- Bluey is shown to have improved her bowling skills from Cricket, perhaps hinting her throwing was partially improved from the lessons taken in Stickbird.
- Chucky and Pat are revealed to be proficient in playing the piano, especially Pat who plays it perfectly.
- This is the second time that the living room has been seen in the Labradors House, the first time being in The Decider.
- However, the room is considerably moved around, with the television, stand and basket gone, the settee on the opposite side, and a new rug placed down.
- There are multiple new additions to the room, many Christmas related:
- A Christmas tree decoration has a picture of Chucky.
- A second decoration is a reindeer inspired Long Dog Easter Egg, decorated with antlers, and with a red-nose, most resembling Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
- There are multiple details found on the piano, which this short has the only appearance of this:
- The piano has stickers on its side, with a Queensland Maroons sticker placed on top of a New South Wales Blues emblem. All three men in the house support The Maroons while Janelle is a Blues fan, as seen in The Decider.
- A mark can be seen on the piano, as if a cup of coffee had stained the piano.
- The piano has etchings underneath it, marked "Pat 93", perhaps hinting of the year which he purchased or received the piano.
- A photograph of a younger version of Pat can be seen hanging next to the piano, wearing a sporting kit of a local Rugby League team, the East (Brisbane) Tigers Rugby League Club.
- The main feature of the room is a picture of the Blue Mountains area, likely from Janelle's home area.
- There are four dinosaur-related pieces in the room; a drawing of a Tyrannosaurus rex with a Santa Hat, a second one depicting a dinosaur kicking an Aussie or rugby ball (both likely made by Chucky), a stuffed pterodactyl toy next to the piano, and an unknown dinosaur stuffed toy next to the Christmas Tree and presents.
- The Tyrannosaurus rex is pictured at the end of the short in the "Merry Christmas shot"
- A wedding photo can be seen of Pat and Janelle hung up. This marks the third photo seen of a couple becoming married, after Bandit and Chilli Heeler (seen in Puppets), and Radley and Frisky Heeler which were taken and shown in The Sign.
- A photo is seen of Lucky and Chucky together.
- This is the first reference in the show that Pat is musically talented.
- The lyrics to the song are shared in the short Jingle Bells.
- At the end of the piano performance, Pat can be seen with some sweat on his face.
