Calypso Washington[1] is a secondary character that has appeared in multiple episodes of Bluey.

Calypso is the teacher at Bluey's school. She is a blue merle Australian Shepherd with a soft and beautiful voice.

Calypso loves to sing and hum songs around the classroom while she keeps an eye on the kids. Bluey learns a lot from her; she's an excellent teacher who guides her students with kind words and a gentle push in the right direction.

She helps steer the children toward good conclusions, but allows them to experience the journey for themselves. Calypso is also very good at knitting and storytelling.

Appearance

Calypso is a Blue Merle Australian Shepherd[2] with dark brown, grey, white, dark grey, orange and light orange fur. She has white feet, hands, tail tip, chest, muzzle and head spots, light orange bottom legs, bottom arms, tail bottom, torso, outer muzzle and eyebrows, orange top legs, top arms and outer muzzle, dark brown back spots, head splotches, head spots and top ears, grey tail top and head, and dark grey tail spots. She also has a black nose and wears a blue shawl.

Biography

Calypso is the teacher at Bluey's school, Glasshouse Primary School. She has no known relatives but is friends with many of her students.

Personality

Calypso is a very kind teacher. She is very wise, and helps the kids solve problems. She is excellent at reading stories, shown when she captivates everyone's attention and feelings.

  • She is voiced by musician and songwriter Megan Washington.
  • She teaches the Prep class at Glasshouse Primary School, a fictional Steiner school near Brisbane.
  • She is the second character to be voiced by a musician, the first being Bandit.
  • Based on her appearance and voice, she appears to be an older character, possibly middle-aged.
  • Her name is based off the genre of Caribbean music of the same name, which features syncopated African rhythms and, typically, words improvised on a topical theme.
  • In the Persian dub, Pony Lady, alongside Calypso, is voiced by a man, also herself alongside Pony Lady are male in the Persian dub.[citation needed]
  • She knits, showing her skill in Barky Boats and Typewriter.
  • There is an episode named after her, which, coincidentally, is also her debut episode.
  • In her first appearance, her bangs point to the right for most of the episode. For the remainder of the series, they point to the left and her shawl is less detailed.
    • She also has black spots behind her eyes.
  • For non-English dubs, her name has changed to accommodate different vocal ranges:
    • In Polish dub her name is "Pani Matylda" (Mrs. Matilda).[3]
    • For Icelandic, Calypso is called Salka (Sarah).[4]
