Baby Race is the fiftieth episode of the second season of Bluey.

Synopsis[1]

Mum reminisces about Bluey and Judo as babies. Bluey learnt to roll over first, but Judo was the first to crawl, so then it became a race to see who was going to walk first!

Bluey is convinced that she is better at the monkey bars than Judo, so Mum tells the girls about when Bluey was a baby and learning how to do everything for the first time.

Baby Bluey was the first to learn to roll-over, but Baby Judo beat her when it came to crawling.

Now the race was on to see who was going to walk first! But while Bluey was busy bum-shuffling and crawling backwards, Judo took her first steps.

Mum was a bit defeated that Judo beat Bluey, but Coco’s Mum reminded her that she was doing great, and that Mum and Bluey were both just running their own races.

Episode Recap

Warning Spoilers!

As Chilli is playing with Bluey and Bingo on the playground, she encourages Bluey not to compare herself to others, but to "run her own race." This leads into an extended account of when Bluey was a baby. She learned to roll over rather early, something Chilli was quite proud of. However, one day at her mother's group with Snickers, Coco, Judo, and their mums, Judo learned how to sit up before Bluey had. This initiated-at least in Chilli's mind-a "baby race", in which she became determined that Bluey would surpass Judo in other feats.

Bluey soon learned to sit up, but by then Judo learned how to crawl. When Chilli attempted to teach Bluey to crawl, Bluey began rolling instead. Further attempts led to Bluey getting around via "bum shuffle", and then by crawling backwards. Throughout this period, Chilli consulted her doctor and various other sources, including a well-meaning if poorly considered idea from Bandit's mum. Eventually, she became despondent, and-as she explains to the girls-felt like she was failing as a mum. Fortunately, Bella, who has raised eight children before having Coco, recognises that Chilli was having doubts about being a first time mum, and reassured her that she was "doing great."

Thanks to this reassurance, Chilli was able to be content with Bluey making progress and stop comparing her accomplishments to the other kids'. And eventually, much to her happiness, Bluey started walking.

  • It is revealed that Bluey learned to roll over early, while Judo learned to sit, crawl, stand, and walk early.
  • Long Dog: This long dog is brown and in a vaguely crawling position. It is wearing a red nappy like Bluey and can be found on top of the kitchen cabinet in the background. It is only visible while Bluey is initially crawling into the kitchen.
